We are thrilled to announce the conclusion of our recent international summer school focused on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). This one-week course was co-organized with the Centre of Natural Hazards & Disaster Science (CNDS) and co-sponsored by the European Geosciences Union (EGU).
The event, hosted by CNDS in Uppsala, brought together PhD students from Earth-, Engineering-, and Social sciences.
The core of the summer school was an intensive exploration of the dynamics and impacts of natural hazards such as floods, droughts, wildfires, and earthquakes. The program was designed to provide a holistic understanding of DRR through the lens of the disaster management cycle: mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery.
Through a blend of expert lectures, engaging seminars, and collaborative group assignments, participants explored the critical interplay between natural events and their societal impacts. Key themes included social vulnerability, risk assessment, and navigating the uncertainty inherent in disaster management.
