Following the success of the 2nd International Stakeholder Workshop in Valencia, the TRANSCEND partners, hosted by the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia, stayed in the city to hold the project’s 3rd General Assembly. This meeting represented a vital milestone as the project enters its final year, providing a dedicated space for the consortium to align on strategic goals and technical progress.
Roadmap for the final year
The 3rd General Assembly focused on a comprehensive review of the project’s objectives. With the finish line in sight, partners engaged in intensive discussions to fine-tune the “next steps,” ensuring that the methodologies developed thus far are ready for final implementation and scaling.
Key discussions revolved around:
- Objective review: assessing the progress of each work package to ensure all milestones are met.
- Strategic planning: defining the roadmap for the final 12 months, focusing on the delivery of robust adaptation pathways.
- Synergy consolidation: strengthening the collaboration between technical partners and Living Lab coordinators to ensure research translates into real-world impact, also through surveys on barriers to adaptation.
Designing the final round of Serious Games
A core highlight of the assembly was the collaborative design of the final round of Serious Games (SG). These participatory tools are central to TRANSCEND’s mission of facilitating complex decision-making under deep uncertainty.
The session put a specific spotlight on two key basins:
- The Mahanadi basin: as one of the project’s most complex and sensitive areas, the Mahanadi required a specialized approach. The partners conducted a dedicated “SG trial run” during the assembly. This simulation was essential to gather immediate feedback from all partners, allowing the team to calibrate the game’s mechanics to reflect the intricate socio-economic and environmental dynamics of the basin.
- The Reno basin: building on the insights from previous workshops, the partners refined the game scenarios for the Reno, focusing on river contracts.
The energy in Valencia confirmed the consortium’s commitment to delivering transformational approaches for water scarcity. As we move into the final phase of the project, the focus shifts toward finalizing these Serious Games and delivering the integrated assessment frameworks to the project’s living labs.
