The 4th and final Stakeholder Workshop of the TRANSCEND project for the Tympaki Living Lab was held on 29 September 2026, in Kokkinos Pyrgos, Crete, Greece.
The workshop was organized in the framework of the EU-funded TRANSCEND project, with the active participation of the Region of Crete, through its Vice-Governorship for Environment and the Directorate of Environment and Spatial Planning.
The event brought together farmers, representatives of Local Land Reclamation Organisations (TOEV), local authorities, water management bodies and environmental services to discuss the challenges of water scarcity and climate change in the Tympaki area.
During the workshop, participants explored the results of water management scenarios and their potential economic impacts on local agriculture. Discussions focused on practical solutions to address irrigation water shortages, improve water management and support farmers in adapting to increasingly challenging climatic conditions.
Particular attention was given to Nature-based Solutions, water infrastructure options, including the potential transfer of water from the Platis River, and innovative measures such as drought insurance to reduce the economic risks faced by farmers.
A key highlight of the workshop was the interactive Serious Game, which allowed participants to explore different water management scenarios and better understand their potential impacts on agricultural production and economic sustainability.
As the final event in the Tympaki Living Lab’s series of stakeholder workshops, the meeting highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between local authorities, farmers and water management organisations in developing practical and sustainable solutions for the future of water resources in Crete.
